I'm not going to give them a negative rating but in the year I've been dealing with Amazon buyback, it's taking them longer to process the buybacks and 2 out of my last four buybacks had a book returned as "Wrong Item" that was the exact Isbn, an exact visual match, definately not bookclub, etc., etc., Not sure if they have been doing alot of hiring and there's a learning curve involved or what. Yes, it's a positive that they return items BUT because prices can change so quickly, you usually have to accept less $$ from another company and also receive a book that's a little more shopworn than when you sent it. Overall, I still think they're a good company to deal with, just not the A+ they used to be. |

| Feb 2012 | 5 never used perfectly new books were sent in one carefully protected package. Package received. Three were accepted by Amazon. Two came back with reasons: "pages damaged" on one and "binding damaged" on the other. These two books were returned. The "binding damaged" book has the hard cover ripped apart deliberately! The other had cigarette burns on the inside cover page. If one reads the process by which a book is accepted or rejected by "Amazon or Merchant", it is obvious that the other party decided to NOT honor the agreement and damaged the books so that they can be rejected. I do not believe that Amazon does it. Amazon should investigate the process or has its own people to do the initial first round inspection before the books are passed onto the "Merchants". I should also add that other transactions with Amazon were fine. But having new books damaged and returned is very disturbing. | |

Selling books to Amazon was a great experience. It was very easy. They accepted all my books and deposited money in my account very quickly. Much faster response than another company I sent to on the same day. I received emails letting me know that they had received my books and then an email saying they were all accepted and the money was in my account. They also seem to pay more for books than other companies. Be aware that you get Amazon gift card credit rather than cash. That doesn't matter to me because I buy a lot of my textbooks from Amazon. Even if you don't buy your textbooks there is always something to buy. |

I used Amazon to trade my used textbooks and had a great experience with them. I sent my books as required and received my credit of $80.00 promptly, as promised. Granted, I'd like to get cash back for my books, but I shop at Amazon all the time, so the gift card you get in your account is fine with me. I'm now trading another book through Amazon and have every confidence that things will go just as smoothly as the first time. I would definitely recommend. |
|
| Dec 2011 | I've sold many books to Amazon and always received acknowledgement and credit promptly. | |
| Dec 2011 | Got paid with an amazon credit right away. One book not accepted, oh well, at least they sent it back at their own expense. | |
| Nov 2011 | I sent one book in and promptly got a gift card credited to my Amazon account for the exact amount quoted. | |
| Nov 2011 | I love using Amazon.com Buyback. There is always fast credit and I like the opportunity to use 'free' UPS delivery. | |
| Nov 2011 | I love dealing with Amazon.com Buyback. Everyone of my numerous transactions has been positive. I love that you can ship UPS free of charge. Full disclosure: I am an Amazon shareholder. | |
| Oct 2011 | Returned book as not acceptable and it had no writing in it! No explanation was given. | |
| Sep 2011 | I sent two books in one package to the third-party merchant of the amazon.com trade-in program via ups. He claimed that he had only received one copy. I packed the two books very tightly, first put them in a plastic bag and then secured the box with tape at both ends and around it. So, I don't believe that the other book had lost in transit. When I tracked the package at ups.com, I found that the weight of the package when delivered was that of two books. | |
| Aug 2011 | We have used this trade in program for about 20 different transactions now. Overall the experience has been positive. I wouldn't recommend sending in more than 2 items at a time though. Anything larger and it seems that they lose items. Sent in 15 mixed dvds and books and they claim they only got 13 items. Sent in 60 dvds ( I was cleaning out the old kids dvds they don't use anymore. Quadruple checked before sealing box, yet they only received 57. Amazon made it right both times, but I'd refrain from sending multiple items in a package. The items are purchased by a 3rd party seller and amazon shouldn't have to make up the difference because they can't receive correctly. | |
| Aug 2011 | Amazon paid the most for several of my books and since the credit never expires, and there is so much to buy at good prices on Amazon, I think it was well worth it. They provide free delivery confirmation with shipping which is a big plus for me. I was given full credit in very timely manner. Also, I was reassured to know if my books were not accepted, I could choose to have them returned to me free of cost. | |
| Aug 2011 |
Initially I was not thrilled at the Amazon credit, but frankly because I can purchase so many things from music to vitamins at Amazon I keep going back. They offer the best prices on books! And, if you open a "student" account with them you get free shipping on "prime" items - it saves me a bundle in shipping fees. |

| Jul 2011 | I've been dealing with them for well over a year. You usually always have your giftcard credit within same day to 2 days of your items being received. Since you can purchase everything from "soup to nuts" on amazon, I consider it as good as cash. A HUGH benefit: they're the only buyback site(that I know of) that will mail you back items they can't use(even if you've sent in something"unacceptible") on their dime. Sometimes you have a textbook that's got highlighting...but is it too much? That's happened one or 2 times to me, the book was returned and I was able to sell it on my own versus another site keeping & donating it. Last I want to mention that if you send in "mixed media" ie books along with dvd's/computer games/gaming system, etc., the items they have to check for "workability" go to a different department. So you may get an email for your book credit with other items showing "not yet received"...Don't panic! Usually that same day or the next you'll get an additional email with credit for your other items. | |
| Jul 2011 | Steer clear. I would not use them again. As a first time user, I sent in Books A, B and C with ISBNs X, Y and Z. Received an e-mail saying they had received Books A, B and C with ISBNs X, Y and Z. Second e-mail from them claimed these were not the same books (???) and therefore payment was denied. (Note: The quote on the packing slip listed those very same books under the very same ISBNs.) Called customer service (very nice) - rep said an error was made. Books were later sent back to me. Impression I had is that the staff is not very attuned to detail, and is inclined to just return a book rather than double check for errors. By contrast, a couple of other vendors I used from BookScouter were extremely professional and responsive - and I received a cash payment from them (vs. a gift card). | |
| Jul 2011 | tracking number show my books have arrived 3 days ago. But in my account show on the way. I contact with amazon . The person said will give me credit in 7 days! | |
| Jul 2011 | good price and fast service | |
| Jul 2011 | all books are in great condition. But 3 were returned. | |
| Jul 2011 | Got what I was quoted and my book returned that was not the edition they were looking for. I will sell my books to them again. | |
| Jun 2011 | Great buyer- sent my books on the 22nd, they received the 27th and paid out my amazon gift code the same day. Definitely will be selling to again soon! | |
| Jun 2011 | Sold to them a few times and have always gotten all of my credit in a reasonable amount of time. | |
| Jun 2011 | Easy to work with, I like that they take books and other media. Have sent several orders, all paid quickly and in full. | |
| Jun 2011 | Great! I have traded books in several times over the past months and Amazon has been fast and fair. Thanks. | |
| May 2011 | I sent in my Amazon order on May 12th, they got it and I had my giftcard payment by the 20th. I already placed an order with that giftcard and I recieved that today, May 23rd. I love Amazon and I'd definitely use it again! I sent them one book so far that valued $35, so I'll definitely use it. I sent other books to other companies on the same day, and I am still waiting to hear back from them. Amazon is the best one I've used thus far!! | |
| May 2011 | Great service! I sent in my book on Fri the 6th, and I was credited my online Amazon gift card on the 11th. I was worried I wouldn't get the full price I was quoted due to the highlighting in the book (sparse throughout, but a little heavier in the first few chapters), but I did get the full amount which was great. I will definitely be using them again for future textbook sell-backs. | |
| May 2011 | I sent in 2 books packed lightly with newspaper, in a bad, flimsy box. I probably shouldn't have done that, and I was sure that amazon wouldn't give me the quoted prices after reading other reviews. They paid me the full price I was quoted and they processed it within 24 hours of receiving them. All in all, it was a good experience. | |
| May 2011 |
I sent in two books and received the full price quoted for both ($35 in all). They paid promptly. I was worried about the merchant holding the books and just writing "damaged binding" or some other b.s., so I sent a formal letter with my trade-in stating "these books have been photographically documented prior to shipping in order to prevent misuse of Amazon's sole discretion policy." In any case they processed the buyback with no problem. It helped that the textbook was virtually new. |
|
| May 2011 | I sent in a shrinkwrapped brand new book and was told the ISBN did not match. I was returned a damaged book, also had an upside down front cover on it, with a different ISBN than the one I sent in.You might have better luck than I did but I doubt I will ever trust Amazon again. I retained my original packing slip from when I bought the book so I know that the ISBN is different without a shadow of a doubt. | |
| Apr 2011 | My first time trading in books and Amazon made it quite easy and were quick to credit my account. I appreciated that I could check on the processing of my books through my Amazon account as well. Would recommend using them. | |
| Apr 2011 | I've used the Amazon trade-in feature a total of 11 times. This last time there was a bit of hic-up (they said only 1 of the 4 books arrived even though they were all boxed together). After contacting Amazon customer service I was almost immediately credited a promotional certificate for the same amount of the supposedly "missing" books (about $25). Great for reliability in my previous 10 trade ins. Great customer service when an issue occurred. | |
| Apr 2011 | I have traded back many textbooks to amazon and they are wonderful. I've always gotten gift cards deposited to my account usually within 2 weeks. In my experience I have not found them picky, then again my books are always well taken care of. Excellent services, couldn't recommended them enough! | |
| Mar 2011 |
NOt a problem. Granted its not cash, but the 3-4 times I've sent books to them received credit straightaway, and the rejected books (2 of them) were sent back as well Recommended |
|
| Mar 2011 | This was my first time using Amazons book buyback. Here is my experience: I sent my textbooks by UPS (prepaid shipping label with tracking paid for by Amazon) on March 22, 2011. The scheduled delivery date was March 29, 2011. On March 29, 2011 I checked the status of the package and it had been delivered (I received an email from Amazon as well). By March 30, 2011, the gift card for the full amount that I was quoted for my books was in my Amazon account. I could not have been more pleased with Amazon! Some of my books even had lite highlighting, so I was worried that I would not get the full amount that I was quoted, but I did! Amazon is AWESOME! | |
| Mar 2011 | Amazon was quick at paying. It is not cash, but an Amazon gift card, but their price was fair and they gave me what they quoted. | |
| Feb 2011 |
First bad experience with them. I sent them 4 BRAND NEW books. Not quasi brand new, or some sort of student definition of New. We are talking, still in shrink wrap, straight from the publisher new. They bought 3 of the books like they always do. Then rejected the fourth for a binding issue. How do you reject for a binding issue when it is still in shrink wrap? These are not cheap books either, this was a $148 dollar book. |
|
| Feb 2011 | I have sent boxes of 5-6 books twice. The process works exactly as described on the Amazon website. They also pay for shipping via UPS with tracking included so you know where your books are. No problems (yet) with books being rejected (but I did not send any books with written notes or highlighting. | |
| Feb 2011 | I was hesitant to ship my books to Amazon. They're decent to buyers but they've always had sleazy business practices when in comes to sellers. It had been a number of years so I shipped two boxes of books. The one they rejected as "damaged" was a brand new textbook that I never ended up using because I dropped the class. So it was spotless and unopened. It was shipped in plastic and bubble wrap so what "damage" they could be referring to is a mystery. I'm very worried that I won't get back the same book I shipped! The other box was accepted without incident, nonetheless, let me just say, keep your smelly gift, card I'll sell it locally on Craigslist next time. | |
| Feb 2011 | Just as promised. Quick payment. | |
| Jan 2011 | Great to deal with. No problems. Really fast payment. | |
| Dec 2010 | This is the worst experience I have ever had. I sold a brand ne text book to them and they returned it to me. They claim the binding is damaged but I cant even find a scratch on it. For best experience, sell your books somewhere. | |
| Dec 2010 | I have been very happy with amazon buyback. The turnaround time is very fast and I have been pleased with the way they e mail you to keep you informed. | |
| Dec 2010 | Quick easy transaction. Paid top dollar for our books. Shipping label printed for us and was free. We got our credit to Amazon so quick and were able to find other books we needed to use the credit on immediately! Love it! | |
| Dec 2010 | I love amazon buyback! I sold all of my books through here and they gave me a good amount for them. Amazon offered the highest price compared to a lot of other buyback companies. I kid you not, the time that I shipped my books and got my gift card was a day and a half! | |
| Dec 2010 | They sent my book back because it had highlighting. Too picky in my opinion. | |
| Dec 2010 | I've used Amazon buyback a few times with books that weren't being accepted by any other buyback program. One of my books was a "guaranteed" buyback price until the end of the year; I checked the site periodically while reading the book and the quoted price stayed constant up through when I finally traded it in. I thought I'd be put off by only getting Amazon credit, but since you can buy almost anything from their site it's definitely worth it. | |
| Dec 2010 | The process of selling the books is very easy when you're already an Amazon member. However maybe there was some delay due to the Thanksgiving holiday, we did not receive the credit till 2-3 business days later, although we saw that the packages had been delivered since 24th Nov. | |
| Nov 2010 | exellent.the best store on line | |
| Nov 2010 | Good job. | |
| Nov 2010 |
love this vendor..no problems..they are particular about their books..condition...but that's a good thing! They are fast! Love the Amazon Credit! |
|
| Oct 2010 | Excellent service. Amazon is the best that I have sent books too. Fast service and they honored their quote and quickly credited me with all the money quoted. I highly recommend amazon buyback. | |
| Oct 2010 | No problems ... | |
| Oct 2010 | Another order I sent to them. Started off well, the shipping was fast, the processing was quick. Except all my books were rejected but two. Payment was supposed to be for $40ish dollars and instead I'm getting $4.76 total. I can understand why one of the books was rejected, I knew it was a long shot when I sent it. So that is my fault and I don't hold them accountable but the others that were rejected we in good shape. Trans #2 | |
| Oct 2010 | This particular order was one of the best I have ever had. The shipping was quick, the processing was extremely fast and I was paid the same day the items were received for the full amount. This transaction was excellent. Of course all books I sent were brand new in shrink wrap so there isn't much to go wrong. Transaction #1 | |
| Oct 2010 | Excellent, fast service. The Amazon credit appears right on your account and is applied automatically to your next Amazon purchase. | |
| Sep 2010 | I just had my first bad experience with Amazon buyback. A couple weeks after sending my book, my trade-in status for the book showed "Received." It's now been 2 weeks since then, and now the status is "Expired!" So, I was never paid. Yes, I sent an email to complain but haven't yet received a response. | |
| Sep 2010 | Have used about five times, gift card deposited quickly and as priced as quoted | |
| Aug 2010 | Amazon quoted me for $180 for nine books, ranging from $40-$1 per book. It took them three to four days to get the books (from CA) and deposit the money in my account. Most books were in great condition, however, one of the more expensive books had a messed up cover with creases and bends on the corner of the book but they still gave me full price. COOL! | |
| Aug 2010 | Thank god for Amazon. They are a great addition to the used book universe. | |
| Aug 2010 | Paid what they said they would, and fast! | |
| Aug 2010 | took about 3 days from the day they recieved my items til the day I was credited. Great experience. Will use them again. | |
| Aug 2010 | Took about 5 days between shipping the books and getting paid. I was paid the full amount in Amazon credit. All together a smooth transaction. I'd rather have cash, but as long as I'm not sending them thousands of dollars of books I generally spend enough on Amazon to use up what I'm paid for buybacks. | |
| Aug 2010 | I was given exactly what I was quoted and it was quickly deposited in my paypal account. Good communication. would use again. | |
| Aug 2010 | Had no problems, was given good quotes and was paid what I was quoted. As long as you don't mind being paid in amazon gift cards, it's a great site to use. Seems on the up and up. | |
| Jul 2010 | Smooth transaction. Would work with them again. | |
| Jul 2010 | Sent my books in and the 2 most expensive books did not arrive. Really strange considering I know those books were in the middle of the box. They did make it right though by crediting my account after I complained. | |
| Jun 2010 | Got exactly the amount of money that was quoted in a timely manner. I would definitely use Amazon again to sell back my books! Their prices are competitive and you can actually trust them not to fudge up your order like I've experienced elsewhere. | |
| Jun 2010 | Sent in one book, and a week later the gift card was in my account. Quick and easy. Would definitely do this again. | |
| Jun 2010 | Sent in two separate cartons of books and all were accepted. Got payment within a couple of days. Very happy! Don't mind the giftcard since I am always buying from Amazon. | |
| Jun 2010 | Fast turnaround. Pays very quickly! I'm very satisfied. | |
| Jun 2010 | Painless process, and quick (less than two weeks) payout, completely matching my quote. The gift card thing is a pain in the a@@, but I'm using it for a bluetooth headset as well as toward some video games -- all at really good prices. | |
| Jun 2010 | Very satisfied. Very fast process to sell back my books. I got the quoted payment the same week! I wish it wasn't a gift card though. | |
| May 2010 | Great new service. From the day I sent it in till I got the gift card was only 10 days; same for 3 different shipments I made. Yeah, they only give a gift card usable on Amazon, but they were giving the highest amount for my all my books, too. So if you shop on Amazon, it's a great deal. | |

| May 2010 | A very helpful buyback tool, Amazon will usually give you a good amount for a book that's in demand. The processing and payment was quick and easy. Only thing I didn't like was that they only give credits to your Amazon.com account; it's great if you're planning to buy more books, but then you have to buy them through Amazon. Still, it's better than getting nothing. | |
| May 2010 | Sent in 80 books, estimated initial amount was around $270; actual amount paid was $263. They sent back 3 books with a "wrong ISBN" code. Shipping took a while from CA to NH, but payment processed very quickly once they got the books. I didn't care at all about the books I sent in - I considered them to be worthless, and was going to donate them somewhere, so I was very happy with the amount I got. No complaints. |
